Ray Bradbury, The Art of Fiction

The Paris Review
Ray Bradbury, The Art of Fiction

Good science-fiction is always more about the present than about the future. Ray Bradbury, who died this Tuesday at the age of 91, excelled in the discipline. Paris Review has a long, brilliant interview with Bradbury, that was originally held in the 70s, but never published and then updated shortly before Bradbury’s 90th birthday. Even if you don’t like his work, I think you’ll like this interview. It takes you right into a great mind and it’s full of memorable quotes. My favourite: «I have three rules to live by. One, get your work done. If that doesn’t work, shut up and drink your gin. And when all else fails, run like hell!»
