To get it out of the way: No, this is not about your carbon footprint (a rather questionable concept popularised by British Petroleum to shift blame from the fossil fuel industry to individuals). This is a history of carbon emissions worldwide, presented as an interactive essay. It begins with your own lifetime (Guess: How much of all human carbon dioxide emissions occurred since you were born?) and eventually zooms out millions of years, to show in how unprecedented times we live.
