The harmful ableist language you unknowingly use
As we’re making progress — slowly, finally — towards more gender inclusive language, there’s another aspect that gets much less attention: ableist language. Indeed, as this piece by the BBC illustrates, our language is full of expressions that are disrespectful to people with disabilities. Once you see it, it’s obvious, and somewhat embarrassing you didn’t notice it before. Read it now.
