In highly uncertain contexts, as a rule of thumb, I trust those who are uncertain. Since the new coronavirus variant was first discovered last week, a lot of commentators’ favourite exercise has been jumping to conclusions. It’s an understandable reflex (fuelled by anecdotes and confirmation bias), but it’s really not helpful. Answers will emerge, in due time.
