Why didn’t we get the four-hour workday?

A matter of perspective: In 1881, people spent almost half of their total hours as an adult working. Today, this number is down to 20%, thanks to higher life expectancy and, indeed, less work hours per week. That reduction is almost as great as a reduction from forty hours a week to fifteen.
