The end of tourism?

The end of tourism?

For anyone you could afford it (and the number of people this is true for has grown massively over recent decades), tourism and travel has been a key element in people’s lives. Some places have built their entire existence around visitors from afar, others were struggling to keep up with the masses. Coronavirus has put a full stop to all of this. Now what? The Guardian has an interesting, long piece on the state and the future of tourism. I like the ambiguity of the title that is also reflected in the piece itself: Has tourism (as we know it) come to an end? But also: What’s the real purpose of tourism?
