Would you donate a kidney for $50,000?

A couple of years ago, the author of this article donated a kidney to a stranger. Because he could, and because he thought it’s the right thing to do. I remember reading that article and coming away deeply impressed by his altruism. Should people get paid to donate kidneys? It sounded like a terrible idea to me – until I read this article.
